As part of the cooperation between UNFPA Tunisia and the General Direction of Health (Shoc room), which consists on the preparedness to emergencies and humanitarian crisis, a monitoring mission in the governorates of Tataouine and Medenine was carried out on 9 and 10 July 2019. The objective of the visit was to verify the progress of the recommendations resulting from the different missions carried out in 2018 but also to assess the existing structures and services of sexual and reproductive health and gender based violence in the region.

The program of the visit revolved around meetings with the representatives of the health sector, mainly the regional health directorates and the regional delegations of the National Board of the Family and Population, the regional coordinators, service providers as well as representatives of civil society organizations.

Several challenges have been identified that constitute an obstacle to adequate care for migrants and refugees in the event of a crisis. Among these challenges, we note the lack of coordination among the various stakeholders as well as the absence of an information system for timely information sharing.

Thus, and due to the need for setting up a referral system for women and girls who need services related to SRH and GBV, a workshop will be held on September 24th, that will bring together stakeholders from the regions of Medenine and Tataouine to set up an effective and functional coordination and information system.
